What are All-on-4 Implants?

All-on-4 technology refers to placing four strategically positioned implants to serve as secure anchors for fixed(i.e. non-removable) bridges that replace the entire arch(jaw) of teeth. This prevents the need for more implants to be used and all of the implants can be placed in one visit. The procedure ensures great comfort, retention and superb aesthetics of  your smile and prevents the need for creams, adhesive strips and gels. The procedure is carefully pre-planned, to ensure safety, predictability, success and ease of transitioning. In most cases implants heal fully in about six months at which point a permanent bridge is typically placed.

You may want or even need all-on-4 implants if your natural teeth are not-salvageable and/or your current prosthesis is constantly slipping or just uncomfortable and ill-fitting, causing you to feel pain or discomfort whenever you put it in. The implants easily keep the restoration in place so that it won't slip or budge. This allows for a more natural and realistic-looking smile and restores comfort as well as confidence.

The majority of patients who want all-on-4 implants can safely have the procedure done.

Advanced technology is used to obtain necessary imaging during the planning stage as “virtual surgery” is done first to ensure a great outcome. Keep in mind that implants rely on healthy underlying bone mass, supreme hygiene and overall good health  to bond fully. We will go over your health and medical history before placing implants and you should be healthy enough to undergo the procedure and heal from it. Control of systemic conditions such as diabetes, periodontal disease and smoking cessation is strongly encouraged as these are well-known risk factors for implants longevity. If you have extensive bone loss, we may suggest a bone grafting before the surgery can be done. Sedative options and adjustments of your regular medications (if any) will be discussed and coordinated with your primary medical team, so that we can provide you with a comfortable and safe experience.

Once pre-surgical planning is completed, surgical guides and your immediate(temporary) prosthesis are made by and received from the laboratory, you can book the procedure, keeping in mind that you will spend most of that day with us and will need roughly about a week of recovery.

Most patients prefer to be asleep for this type of procedure, once sedation is administered, local anesthetic is given and surgery begins while you are asleep. The prefabricated surgical guides are used throughout the procedure to maximize precision and efficiency as well as safety of implant placement. The transitional(temporary) fixed bridge will be secured to the implants at the end of surgery. The sutures will be placed to close the area and help promote proper healing. Over the course of about three to six months, your implants will naturally begin to fuse with the surrounding bone and become secure, stable and virtually permanent. Final prosthesis is usually delivered once complete healing is verified. Your dentist will instruct you in great detail about daily and long-term maintenance needed for your restoration.
